Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Wilke Husman of Amher celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 25 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wennekamp, their son-in-law and daughter. Mrs. Husman (nee Meta Weers) was born Dec. 10, 1868, a Moorhusen, Germany. Mr. Husman was born Jan. 7, 1860 at Leerhaven Germany. They both came to the United States on March 31, 1885 and arrived at Monticello, Iowa. They were married Nov. 25, 1889 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran church by Rev. C. Mardorf. To this union eleven children were born, nine of whom are living. Their children are: Mrs. Anna Wennekamp, Monticello; Mayme, deceased; William, Onslow; John, Amber; Mrs. Kate Dirks, Wyoming; Mrs. Dena Dirks Amber ; Henry, of Minnesota; Mrs Matie Dirks, Anamosa; Ed, deceased; Mrs. Louise Conley, Amber, Mrs. Alvina Rink, Monticello. They have 40 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Husman have spent the 50 years of their married life in and near Amber. Rev. F. H. Kehren gave a short address. Mr. and Mrs. Husman were presented with gifts of money.

MONTICELLO EXPRESS...PAGE 4....MAY 31, 1945WILKE HUSMAN FUNERAL IS HELD LAST TUESDAY
Wilke Husman, a respected citizen of Jones county died Saturday, May 26, at 4 a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Rink, on Cedar Street, Monticello. His death followed a heart attack. Funeral services were held at the Goettsch funeral home at one p.m. and at Zion Evangelical Lutheran church in Wayne township at 1:45. Rev. Frederick H. Kehren, Lutheran pastor, officiated. The pallbearers included Raymond Martinsen, Ernest Husman, L.V. Husman, Gerd Tuetken, John Wennekamp, and Robert Dirks.
Mr. Husman was born January 7, 1860, at Lehrhafe, Witmund, East Friesland, Germany. he was baptized and later confirmed in 1874. He followed the vocation of farming in Germany, and immigrated to the United States March 18, 1885. He settled at Monticello, and worked on farms near the town until 1890, when he returned to Germany for a two year visit.
He was married November 25, 1892, to Gesche Margaretha Weers by Rev. Christoph Mardorf. The family lived on a farm east of Amber. Eleven children were born to this union, seven daughters and four sons. A daughter, Mayme, and son, Edward, preceded their father in death.
In 1925 Mr. Husman retired from active work and lived in amber for the last ten years. Mr. and Mrs. Husman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary November 25, 1942.
January 7, 1945 Mr. Husman submitted to an operation at the McDonald hospital, but recovered nicely. He had been a member of the Zion Lutheran church since 1885. He is survived by his wife, and the following family: Mrs. Henry Wennekamp, Monticello; Will Husman, Onslow; John Husman, Anamosa; Mrs. Gerd Dirks, Wyoming; Mrs. D. John Dirks, Anamosa, Mrs. John F. Husman, Hopkinton: Mrs. Owen Conley, Monticello; Henry Husman, Backus, Minn.; Mrs. Henry Rink, Monticello; forty-three grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
