1801 Will; wife Piety, children; Miriam, Anny, Aaron, Mary Jones, Nathan, Serena. (Edwards)In the name of God Amen, I Moses Barfield of the County of Onslow and State of No Carolina being very sick and weak i body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to Almity God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to Die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament; that is to say, principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul to almity God that gave it and My Body I recommend to the Earth, to be Buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Exet, Nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again, by the mighty Power of God, And as Touhing Such Worldly Estate wherewith it has Pleased God to Bless me in this Life, I give Devise and Dispose of the same in the Following Manner and Form --
First, I desire all my just debts to be paid out of the Money that are due me; if any over and above what pays my just debts, to be equally Divided among My Wife and Children,
Item I Lend to My beloved Wife, Piety, the S plantation where I Now Live, Likewise all my property that are not allready given away by Deed (during her natural) Life, and after her decease the plantation to go to My beloved Son Nathan Barfield to him and his Heirs forever, and the rest of the Loan to be equally Divided among all my Children, at the discretion of my Exetrs and if either of My Children are Dissatisfied with the Division of My exetr then they shall chose two good Men to Divide S property which Division they shall abide by, otherwise they shall have no part in S property but for it to be Divided among the rest of the Heirs (equally)
I Constitute Make and ordain my loving sons, Aaron Barfield and Nathan Barfield Exetrs of this my Last Will and Testament and I hereby wholly disallow revoke and disannul, all and every other former Testament wills Legacies bequeaths, & exetrs by me in anywise before names Willed, Bequeathed, ratifying & confirming this and not other to be my Last Will and Testament, i witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this Fifth day of April one Thousand Eight Hundred and one
