Frederich Gerhard "Fred / Fritz" Volkers

FRED VOLKERS, farmer, Wayne Twp., Sec. 28; P.O. Langworthy; carries on a farm on shares with Henry Rickels; born in Germany in 1849; came to America and to Jones Co. in 1872. Was a soldier in the old country and was in the Franco-Prussian war. Wife's maiden name was Adelina Henrietta Van Baesten, a native of Germany also; have had four children, three are living—Johnnie Theodore, Louise Henrietta, Annie Maggie. All the family are Lutherans; Mr. Volkers is a Democrat.

Fredrick Volkers died at the home of his son, John Volkers, on June 3, 1921.
The deceased was born in Hanover Germany on March 1, 1848 and came to this country in 1873. He first settled at Monticello, Ia., where he lived until 1913 when he came to this community.
He has always been an active member of the Lutheran Church being a member of the local Lutheran church at the time of his demise.
His wife died 27 years ago at Monticello, Iowa. During the last few years he had made his home in Sioux City, coming here off and on to visit his children. He arrived here again two weeks ago. His health has been failing considerably of late, presumably caused by cancer of the stomach which finally caused his death at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 2 days.
The children who survive him are John Volkers, Mrs. Henry Burgard, Henry Volkers, Mrs. Emma Simmons and Mrs. Edith Duckworth. He is also survived by 19 grand children.
The funeral was held last Monday from the First Trinity Ev. Luth. Church in this city, the Rev. A. Ollenburg, officiated and the body was laid tho rest in the local Lutheran Cemetery.
