Death
SOURCE: THE MONTICELLO EXPRESS...PAGE 7....DECEMBER 14, 1916Mrs. Sophia Engelina Null, the wife of Gerd Null, of this city, died at the Anamosa hospital, December 8, of erysipelas, at the age of 52 years. Mrs. Null was operated upon for appendicitis, November 14. From the effects of this operation she had nearly recovered when she became afflicted with erysipelas, which caused her death. Mrs. Null was a daughter of the late Henry Heeren. She was born in Wayne Township, September 5, 1864. She was married to Gerd Null April 4, 1883. She is survived by her husband and four living children, viz; John, Augusta, Henry and Gerd. Mr. and Mrs. Null built a new house in Monticello, a year ago, where they hoped to spend their declining years in peace. They had accumulated a competency as the results of their work and sacrifices, and they looked forward to many happy years of less arduous labor. But the unexpected happened, for our will is not always the will of a ruling power. Mrs. Null was a most excellent woman of splendid impulses and generous traits of character. The funeral was held at St. John's Lutheran church, last Monday. It was conducted by the decedent's pastor, Rev. W.H.L. Schuetz, assisted by rev. H.E. Jacobs of Kewanee, Illinois. It was largely attended by the sorrowing friends and neighbors of the Null family
