A. G. Bohlken Buried Tuesday From St. John'sHe Was President Of German Mutual Fire Insurance Company
Adolph G. Bohlken, who had been ill for a period of nearly two months, died Sunday morning December 22, at 2:15 at the McDonald hospital. He had been ill with complication of diseases and repeatedly his life hung in the balance. His family have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 at the home and 11 o'clock at St. John's Ev. Lutheran church. His pastor, Rev Paul T. Gutknecht, had charge of the services.
Born in Germany
He was a son of Hienrich and Henrietta (Eggers) Bohlken. His birth occurred March 12, 1878 at Fedderwarden, Groden Hersoztum Oldenburg, Germany. He was baptized May 19, of the same year in his home village in the Lutheran church at Fedderwarden.
At the age of five, in 1883, his parents brought him, together with his brother and sister to the Unit ed States, They settled in Jones county. Three days after their arrival the sister died at the age of three years. The brother Henry, preceded him in death in 1892 at the age of 20 years. Mr Bohlken was confirmed at St John's church, the same year by Rev. Fritz Von Strohe.
Marriage
He was united in marriage November 17, 1904 to Emma Kathrine Bohlken, by Rev. W. H. L. Schuetz. Four sons and four daughters were born to this union. One daughter Laura, died June 1, 1918. In addition to his beloved wife his surviving children are Henry, George, Carl, Adolph Jr., Mary, Ellen, and Agnes, and one grandson, John.
The Bohlken family was always closely knit. Mr. Bohlken'g father and mother lived with them until their death. The mother died in 1916 and the father in 1934.
Mr. Bohlken was a member of St. John's church and for many years served that congregation in the capacity of chairman which office he held at the time of his death. Also at the time of his passing he was president of the German Mutual Fire Insurance company of Wayne township, a director in the Farmers Mutual Creamery company of Monticello and of the Federal-Land Bank.
