Death
Willits News 6-13-2007Darwin "Big Bud" Vann passed away June 9, 2007 in Arcata. Bud was born to Grover and Margaret Vann along with brother Garwin in Willits. He was raised in Covelo and graduated from Round Valley High School. Bud attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo for one year before marrying Karen Philbrick. The couple had three children, Donna, Ronny and Randall. They lived in Covelo and raised cattle and owned and operated the Shell Oil Co plant for many years. In 1977, Bud moved to Humboldt County to work for Ford Land and Livestock, and spent more than 30 years working on numerous ranches.
Bud's passion was roping and he spent any free time he had atttending rodeos and jackpots all over California, Nevada, and Oregon.
Bud met and married Lynn Durbin in 1983 and spent his last years at the Murphy Meadows Ranch in Korbel.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Vann, sons Ron and Randall Vann, daughter Donna Bushnell (Wade), sister Cheryl Pinches, all of Covelo, mother Margaret Vann of Red Bluff, twin brother Garwin (Suzie) of Cotttonwood, grandchildren, Alex Vann of Modesto, Chad and Chelsey Bushnell of Red Bluff, Wacey and Tyler, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grover Vann, and daughter in law Rebecca Vann.
Memorial services will be held at 3PM Friday, June 15, and the Redwood Acres Fairground in Eureka.
Memorial contributions can be made in Bud's honor to the American Cancer Society.
