Dodivah Townsend, b. say 1768 son of Daniel Sr. & Hannah (Bibber) Townsend of Vassalborough, d. 1 Apr 1833 according to probate records signed and sworn to 13 Jul 1833 by "his eldest son David" and daughters "Sarah Lovejoy wife of Jacob Lovejoy" and "Nancy Parsons wife of Oliver Parsons" (Ken Co Probate #T-4) m. (1) Vassalborough 18 May 1785 Sarah Hastings (VR) dau of Mathew & Mary (Battle) Hastings. She prob. died by 7 May 1803 for she did not relinquish her right of dower on land that Dodivah and his parents sold to Jeremiah Thayer and Paul Bailey both of Sidney, Vassalborough (Ken Co deed 5:456). Dodivah m. (2) [n.d.] Sarah (Lovejoy) Lincoln of Vassalborough. She was the daughter of Capt. Abiel & Mary (Brown) Lovejoy of Vassalborough and the former wife of Matthew Lincoln of Vassalborough. Matthew Lincoln m. (2) Vassalborough 5 Feb 1809 Betsy Rollins (VR). Sarah, Dodivah's second wife, prob. died bef. 2 Apr 1821 when she was not mentioned in a land transaction made by Dodivah, his son David and his son-in-law Jacob Lovejoy who, with their wives, signed the deed [Ken Co. deed 42:146-47]. Dodivah and his first wife, Sarah, were named in Mathew Hastings' will dated 31 Dec. 1790 (William D. Patterson, The Probate Records of Lincoln County, Maine: 1760-1800 [repr 1991]. pp. 202-4). Dodivah was named co-executor of Mathew's estate and he inherited the Hastings homestead. On 13 June 1793, Dodivah and Sarah were witnesses for the will of John Marsh, the father-in-law of her brother Moses Hastings (Reynolds 308)

Sarah probably m. about 1803 or 1804 Dodivah Townsend of Sidney, a widower with seven children and probably divorced Matthew Lincoln who m. Feb 5, 1807 Betsey Rollins (Lovejoy 91).Beatrice Reynolds says that Sarah (Lovejoy) Lincoln never divorced her husband, so she and Dodivah were never legally married, although she and Dodivah had Sumner and Columbus.
