Cora Edna Hughes
(27 Nov 1912 - 3 Dec 1991)
Cora Edna (Mike) Hughes was born November 27, 1912 in Jack County, Texas, to Optimus John and Belle Smith Leeman Hughes.
Before Cora Edna was born, her father and the boys were probably picking cotton for people, and the family lived in a tent in the neighborhood of Pleasant Hill Community. Cora Edna was born in this tent.
A funny story that was told about Mike. When she was small she was playing with the cat. She was chewing gum and she asked the cat if it wanted to chew her gum. She gave the gum to the cat, the cat went "gulp" and the gum was gone. Mike held the cat up with both hands and shook it and said, "Cat, did you swaller that? You did swaller it, and that was Johnnie's wax!"
Claudie Hughes wrote that, "One time when Cora Edna was sick, that was when you didn't have to name what was wrong and you could go to bed and get waited on. She was all propped up in bed with pillows, and everyone was waiting for Fletcher to finish a string ball. When he sewed all the strings down, he threw the ball to Cora Edna and she didn't catch it. It flopped over into the pee-pot and that ended the ball game.
William Doyle Moore was born January 4, 1908, in Jack County, Texas, to Joe and Minnie Moore.
Doyle and Cora Edna were married February 17, 1932, in Jack County, Texas, and they went to Doyle's parents to live.
Their son, William Doyle, Jr., was born May 17, 1933, at the home of Cora Edna's parents on the Kimbell place West of Jacksboro, in Jack County, Texas.
Doyle and Cora Edna nearly always lived with Uncle Joe and Aunt Minnie Moore (Doyle's parents) on the same place where Doyle was born.
William Doyle Jr. married Carla Owen May 25, 1956, in Jack County, and they lived at Coleman south of Abilene for several years. Their daughter Marcia was born in 1958 at Coleman, and son Ray Dean was born in 1960 at Coleman. Their youngest son Jimmy was born in 1967 at Jacksboro.
Uncle Joe Moore, Doyle's dad, died in 1964, and Aunt Minnie, his mother, died in 1966.
William Doyle Jr. and Carla moved in a trailer house next to Doyle and Cora Edna (must have been around 1967,) and they raised their family there.
Some time around 1985, William Doyle and Carla added some rooms onto Doyle's and Cora Edna's house so that they could all live in the same house. They spent many happy years in the house together.
Cora Edna died December 3, 1991, in the hospital at Graham, Texas, and is buried at Lynn Creek Cemetery, Jack County, Texas.
Doyle continued to live in his home with William Doyle and Carla until his death March 8, 1996. He is buried beside Cora Edna at Lynn Creek Cemetery.
