Beulah "Betsey" Wheeler

Beulah is one of the Valiant 13, women who escaped during the Battle of Hubberton. A few miles north they hid valuables, took all children and fled on foot through rough mountain 50 miles south to Bennington VT. She and her oldest daughter, Olive. Olive and Beulahs's husband had died just recently. A soldier came to the door very ill. Nehemiah and Beulah took his in, nursed him. He died. Nehemiah and son-in-law Isaac Ashley died soon thereafter.

Wife of Nehemiah How(e), whom she married on March 4, 1747, in Bolton, Worcester, MA, and with whom she had 9 known children. For names, please see husband's memorial.

No gravestone. "The small 'Ward' Cemetery on Finel Hollow road, is located on the old Nehemiah How homestead. Nehemiah died in 1777 and it is supposed that he and his wife Betsey . . . are buried here, but no stones mark the spot . . . There are numerous slate slabs which probably mark graves."
