Dudley was born in Franklin Co. Kentucky, where he grew up. He moved to Anderson Co. where he married Miss Susan Jane Thacker. He bought a tract of land on Hammonds Creek at the crossing of Camdenville Pike, from his half brother, Edwin E Hawkins. Dudley M had a water operated grist and saw mill here, which he and his family operated for about 50 years. They were the parents of nine children (Anderson Co 116).
