Individual Details

Simeon Stone

(Abt 1585 - )

Simon Stone was born, baptized and married at Much Bromley. His two eldest children were also baptized there. By 1624 he and his family were living in Boxtead. It wasn't until April 15, 1635, when he was about 50, that he sailed on the "Increase" from London to New England. His wife Joan, 16 year old daughter Frances, and younger children Ann, Simon and John, went with him. Presumably his brother Gregory with his family sailed similarly as they were both admitted as freemen on May 25, 1636 in Watertown. Simon settled on the Charles River in Watertown on a homestead that was on the south side of what is now Mount Auburn Cemetery. He served as selectman in 1637 and 1656 and was a church deacon for seven years. After Joan died he married Sarah, the widow of Richard Lumpkin (Cutter, 1409).
