Excerpt from a letter written by Sallie Hughes Prouty to her son Charles W. on December 10, 1918, "I heard last week thro a letter from Nonnie that Esther – Arthur’s sister – died Thanksgiving day from influenza. This was a great shock to us and I know it will be quite a blow to Arthur, he almost idolized his sister. We have heard nothing from him for almost two months and are so eager for news of him."Endnotes
