(11 Dec 1827 - 1 Sep 1894)

Monticello Express August 13, 1896
What has been known as the "two mile house," east of Monticello, a residence owned by the H.A. B. Toel estate, and occupied by John Edzards and family, was struck by lightning about midnight, last Saturday night, and burned to the ground. The lightning struck near the chimney, of the main part of the house and ran along the building until it was deflected by the eavespoutlng to the rear of the summer kitchen, where It set a four gallon can of kerosene oil on fire. The members of the family were slightly shocked, but none of them were injured. The neighbors, seeing the blaze, came as quickly as possible and assisted Mr. Edzards in the removal of his furniture and household effects. Everything was saved except goods appraised at $86, which were insured in the German Mutual Insurance company of Wayne township. His loss was appraised, Tuesday, and will be quickly settled. The house is said to have been insured for $500, but we did not learn in what company.
