MONTICELLO Funeral services for Arend J. Poppe, 69, rural Scotch Grove, were held Monday afternoon, Jan. 6, at St. John's Lutheran church, rural Monticello. The Rev. C. C. Gutekunst officiated with burial in Oakwood cemetery.
Mr. Poppe died suddenly of a heart attack at this home Thursday afternoon, Jan. 2. He was born Oct. 13, 1884 near Scotch Grove the son of Janssen and Mary Balster Poppe. He was educated in the rural schools of Jones county. He lived 54 years on a farm near Scotch Grove.
He was married Jan 26, 1911 to Katharine Burrack, who died July 5, 1916. He was married to Elsie Behrends on April 17, 1918. Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Wallade Cruise, Olin; five grandchildren; two brothers, George of Langworthy and Conrad of Monticello, and one sister, Margaret Poppe of Langworthy.
His parents, an infant daughter, and a great-grandchild preceded him in death.
