Elsa Hanken age 93, of Monticello, died Thursday afternoon, September 18, 2008 at her home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 Monday morning at St. Johns Lutheran Church rural Monticello with interment in the St. Johns Cemetery. Rev. Reed Stockman will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 3 until 6 Sunday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Thoughts, Memories and Condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church or a charity of choice.
Surviving are 4 children, Beverly Harms and Walter (Joyce) Hanken both of Anamosa, Irene Green and Harlan Hanken both of Monticello, a sister, Clara Bunting, Monticello, 9 Grandchildren and 13 great-Grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her Parents, her husband Gerke, in 1976 a son Paul in 1984 and a sister, Wilma Cunningham.
Elsa Prull was born October 29, 1914 at Bowens Prairie, Lovell Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter Eberhard and Marie Reuter, Prull. Elsa attended the Wayne Township School #2 in Langworthy. She graduated from the Monticello High School with the class of 1931. Elsa Prull and Gerke Hanken were married January 4, 1933. The couple farmed in Wayne Township near Langworthy. Gerke died on August 13, 1976.
Elsa was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church. She was baptized on December 6, 1914 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church where she confirmed her faith on April 1, 1928.
