EDWARD HARMS DIED SUNDAY
CONDUCT LAST RITES AT WAYNE CHURCH
The death of Edward Harms occurred at the hospital at Independence last Sunday, April 28. Funeral services were held Tuesday. Services for the family were held at the Iverson funeral home at 1 o’clock and final services at 1:30 at Zion Lutheran church in Wayne Township. Rev .F.H. Kehren had charge of both services. Mr. Harm’s body was laid to rest in the Wayne cemetery.
BORN IN GERMANY
Mr. Harms was born at Hesel, Germany, May 17, 1860. He was baptized in the Lutheran church at Reepsholt, January 10, 1861 and later confirmed in the same church. He grew to young manhood, and when he reached the proper age entered the German army. He served out his enlistment and completed his military training in 1882. He then emigrated to the United States.
The marriage of Mr. Harms to Katherina Dirks occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Wennekamp in Wayne township and was performed by Rev. C. Mardorf, at that tie pastor of Zion’s church.
NEAR ONSLOW
Mr. and Mrs. Harms made their home on a farm near Barnston, Nebr. They lived at that place until 1896 when they returned to Iowa and settled on a farm near Onslow. They continued to live there until Mr. Harm’s health failed and it was found necessary for him to receive treatment at the hospital.
At the time of his passing Mr. Harms was almost 80 years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1923, a son, Dirk Henry, and a daughter, Theda, who died in infancy. Other surviving children are Mary, Meta, and Ben, of Wyoming, Mrs. Harminna Phillips of Davenport, Harm, of Onslow, and seven grandchildren. Throughout his life Mr. Harms followed the vocation of a farmer.
