OXFORD -- Helen C. (Donovan) Prouty, 82, of Main Street, a retired secretary, died Sunday, April 8, in Lanessa Extended Care Facility, Webster, after a long illness.
Her husband of 33 years, Harris M. Prouty of Oxford, died in 1975. She leaves five sons, John M. and Daniel M. Prouty, both of Charlton, Thomas M. Prouty of Boothbay, Maine, Timothy J. Prouty of Dudley, and James H. Prouty of Harland, Wisconsin; a sister, Ursala Bedard of Oxford; eight grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Two brothers predeceased her, Brendan Donovan of Oxford in 1995, and Richard Donovan of Charlton in 1975. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John J. and Agnes T. (Murray) Donovan, and lived most of her life in Oxford. She graduated Oxford High School in 1936 and Becker Junior College in Worcester.
Mrs. Prouty was a secretary at Oxford High School for 28 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford and the Oxford Women's Club.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, in St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St. Burial will be in St. Roch's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Helen Prouty Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Webster Five Cent Savings Bank, 393 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.
