MENDOCINO PIONEERS CELEBRATE THEIR GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
AGED COUPLE CAME TO CALIFORNIA IN FIFTIES ----------
MR. AND MRS. WILEY ENGLISH ENTERTAIN RELATIVES--------
Special Dispatch to the "Chronicle"
Ukiah, September 11.--Mr. and Mrs Wiley English of this city celebrated their golden wedding at their home yesterday. English was born in Missouri in 1838, and came with his widowed mother and his brothers and sisters across the plains to California in 1852, driving their ox teams and herds with them. He first went to Bear river and Grass valley, where he engaged in timbering and mining for five years. He then moved to Mendocino county, where he has been for more than fifty years engaged in farming and stock raising.
Mrs. English's maiden name was Hala Neece. She is also a native of Missouri, and came with her parents and twelve brothers and sisters to California by way of the plains in 1860, and on September 11, 1861, she and English were united in marriage at Ukiah by Rev. J. D. Bonner.
At the golden wedding Sunday the children of the contracting parties were all present. They are Mrs. C. C. Toney of Imperial, Mrs. E. D. Warren of Los Angeles, and Mrs.J. R. Thomas, George, William, Haney and Robert English of Mendocino county. Two of Mrs. English's sisters, Mrs. Kate Cox and Mrs. John Higgins; thirteen of the grandchildren, a number of other relatives and a few intimate friends of the bride and groom were also present to extend congratulations and wish them bon voyage through life.
