Individual Details

John Warner

(1615/16 - Aft 17 May 1692)

John Warner probably came to America on the ship Increase in 1635 when he was around 20 yrs old. There is another John Warner of Connecticut who married Ann Norton in 1649 who might have been the one on the ship Increase, but the other passengers can also be found in Ipswich records, leading one to believe that the Mass. John Warner is correct.
The first mention of John Warner of Ipswich, Mass., is found in 1637. Records show him buying and selling land, witnessing wills, etc. in Ipswich from that date through 1665.
John Warner came to Quabaug in the summer of 1660, though probably not moving there till fall. John was the father of Brookfield and probably built the first house there. His son Samuel came with him in 1665. John was one of the three trustees in whom the deed of the town of Brookfield was vested, taken from the Indians for the town 19 Dec. 1673. After the massacre by the Indians at Brookfield in 1675, John Warner went to Hadley, Mass. He kept his holdings at Brookfield till 1691 though, where records show he sold them to Ichabod Smith. He deeded to his sons Mark, Nathaniel, and Eleazer, real and personal property found in Ipswich and Hadley during 1692.
