Gerard Spencer

Gerrard Spencer came with his older brothers, William, Thomas, and Michael, and other relatives to New England in 1632. They first settled at Cambridge, Mass., but by 1637 Michael and Gerard moved to Lynn. Gerard was admitted a freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony March 9, 1637. He was a ferryman at Lynn in 1639 and served as a Sergeant by 1655 and Ensign by 1656 for the militarty company at Lynn.
Around 1660 he moved to Hartford, Conn. where his brothers William and Thomas lived. Two years later he moved with the first settlers to Haddam Conn. where he became a prominent citizen of that town.
