John Case

(1616 - 21 Feb 1704)

John Case was born in Aylesham, England. He sailed to America from Gravesend, England, on September 3, 1635, on the ship "Dorset" and landed at Newport, Rhode Island. He first settled at Hartford, Connecticut. Then he spent some years in Newton, Long Island, but in 1656 he returned to Connecticut and was living in New London. The following year he moved to Windsor were he was married and his first five children were born. In the spring of 1669 he moved to Massacoe, which is now Simsbury. He and Joshua Holcombe were deputies of the court for Simsbury in 1670.
John was a farmer and owner of large acreages of land. In 1670 he was a Representative in the Connecticut General Assembly and served some years. At one time he was one of a committee to invite Rev. Mr. Stone to become the Resident Minister and to look after the school affairs of the town. John Case was recognized for his moral influence as well as his business integrity. The records show that he acquired a very considerable estate for the times.
