Obediah Eddy

(10 Mar 1751 - 24 May 1826)

Obadiah Jr was 5 years old when his father was killed by Indians at Crown Point, Lake George, NY on 19 Sep 1756 In the French and Indian War. Only one soldier survived that day (William Merry) who, after being held prisoner for 5 years, escaped and told what had happened.

Obediah Eddy was an early settler of Woodford, Vermont. He was one of a group that took the freemen's oath at a town meeting held March 10, 1792. He took part in town proceedings, serving as a lister in 1797 and treasurer in 1799. Obediah was a prominent man in the town's affairs, but refused to serve when he was elected as the first representative in the township (History of Bennington County, Vt. Aldrich, Lewis Cass ed.
