Francis Hackley

(6 May 1740 - 17 Jul 1811)

Frances Hackley, son of James and Elizabeth Shippey Hackley, was born in King George Co., VA in 1740. He married Fanny Lightfoot, daughter of Major Goodrich Lightfoot and Susannah Slaughter in 1768 or 1769.

Francis and two of his brothers Fought in the French and Indian Wars, served under Col. Washington; were with him at Braddock's defeat, and subsequently fought in the Revolutionary War until it was over. They moved to Kentucky in 1793 or 1795 with 9 children and settled on this land. A cabin was near this cemetery.

Photos taken in 1947 show both Francis and Fannie's stones and were at that time readable. Only one remains, and the inscription is gone.
