CARL (CHUCK) BOHLKEN
Services were held Feb. 14 for Carl (Chuck) Bohlken, 73, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Monticello, with burial at the church cemetery. The Rev. Norbert Tegtmeier officiated at the services.
Carl (Chuck) Bohlken, Monticello, died Feb. 11 at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City, following an extended illness.
Carl Frederick Bohlken was born Sept. 7, 1913, in Wayne Township, the son of Adolph and Emma Bohlken. He received his education in the rural schools near his home. Carl served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
Carl F. Bohlken and Audrey Parks were married Sept 11, 1949, at Belding, Mich. The couple made their home in San Diego, Calif., until 1960 when they returned to Monticello. Chuck worked as a mechanic for George Bohlken, Miller Implement and Freese Motors. In 1955, he started his small engine sales and repair shop. He operated that business until he retired in 1983.
Carl was a member of St. John 's Lutheran Church in Monticello. He was baptized on Oct. 19, 1913, and confirmed his faith on May 27, 1928. He was also a member of the VFW.
Carl is survived by his wife; two sons, Ronald Bohlken of Iowa City and Donald Bohlken of Chariton; a daughter, Beverly Morgan of Aurora, Colo; one grandson; three brothers, henry Bohlken of Monticello and George W. Bohlken and Adolph (Boots) Bohlken, both of Scotch Grove; three sisters, Mary Bohlken and Ellen Hanken, both of Monticello, and Agnes Collman of Stone City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Casket bearers were William Bohlken, Thomas Bohlken, David Bohlken, L.R. Bader, Bill Hanken, Elmer Hanken, Mike Flynn and Frank Schneiter.
