Individual Details
Rev David Garrison
(17 Feb 1777 - 7 Apr 1842)
Son David Garrison, my ancestor was one of the first Methodist Circuit Riders, ordained by Bishop Asbury, and founded many Methodist Churches in the upstate of SC and in Northeast Georgia, specifically Banks County, where many descendants were Methodist Preachers at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. One descendant Jasper Garrison was a doctor, lawyer, and ordained Methodist minister, serving in the Confederate Secret Service. He was captured on a mission to New York, and allowed to escape across the border to Canada, because he was a Mason. The Garrisons held the world's largest Easter Egg hunt near the family home in Homer, Georgia for years, and have produced many outstanding descendants. I am privileged to be descended from Jedediah two separate ways from my grandmother Myrtle Garrison, who was a one room school teacher in Banks County. She is descended from both David Garrison, and his sister Jane Garrison, who married Barney Meadors. She married my grandfather Plumer Duckett Ayers after he returned from World War I, serving in the All American Division.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rev. David Garrison, ordained by Bishop Asbury, founded Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, Banks County, Georgia. David and wife Hannah Prickett, David's sister Jane Garrison Meaders and husband Barnabus Barney Meaders, and their father Jedediah Garrison and wife Jane williams are buried in stone graves in the older area of cemetery, in the area directly in front of the church.
Jane Garrison Meaders' son Rev. Jedediah Asbury Meaders became a Methodist minister in Cherokee County, Georgia, and his daughter Orpha Clementine Meaders married Enoch C. Garrison, son of Levi, grandson of Rev. David Garrison, son of Jedeidiah.
Orpha and Enoch are buried in the cemetery, along with son Benson Bascom Garrison and wife Henrietta Anderson Garrison. Henrietta's parents Josiah Jenkins Anderson and wife Susannah Nix Anderson, are also buried in the Garrison section of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. Benson is the brother of David Washington Garrison, of the line of the founders of the Homer Easter Egg Hunt.
Barnabus Meaders is the father not only of Rev. Jedediah Asbury Meaders, but of Christopher Columbus Meaders, father of John Milton Meaders of White County, Georgia, founders of the Meaders pottery group, featured in a Smithsonian Institute Folklife Series, and known for their "jug head" pottery.
Benson Bascom Garrison, descended from both the Meaders and Garrison line, married Henrietta Anderson, and had children including my grandmother Myrtle Garrison, who became a one room school teacher in Banks County, before her marriage to my grandfather Plumer Ayers Sr.
