John Stockbridge
(Abt 1608 - 13 Oct 1657)
John came in the Blessing from Lindon 1635, aged 17, with his wife Ann, 21, and son Charles 1. Ann joined the church in Scituate 16 Jul 1637.
John Stockbridge, a Wheelwright, took the oath of fidelity in Scituate 1638. He was one of the Conihassett partners 1646. He had a house near to John Hollet's, (perhaps a few rods south-west of Jessee Dunbar's). He had also a considerable tract of land, by purchase of Abraham Sutliffe, near Stockbridge's mill pond on the north and east. In 1656, he purchased half the mill privilege of George Russell, (with the saw mill, which Isaac Stedman had erected ten years before) and built a grist mill, in partnership with Russell. Nearly at the same time, (before 1660) he built the Stockbridge Mansion-house, a part of which is now [1831] standing, and is probably the oldest house in New-England, save one, viz. the Barker house at the Harbour. It was a garrison in Philip's war, and the port-holes may be traced in the back part of the house, even now. He had married about the time of his arrival in the country, but the name of his first wife we have not learned (Deane 342).

On 9 Oct 1643 when John was 35, he second married Elizabeth Hatch, widow of Soan.
They had the following children:

iii. Hesther. Born ca 1647.
John third married Mary
They had the following children:
i. Abigail. Born in 1655.[Deane]
ii. Mary (ca1655-ca1697)
iii. John. Born in 1657 in Boston, MA.[Deane] John died in Hampton, NH.
On 23 Nov 1681 when John was 24, he married Mary Godfrey, in Haverhill, MA.

To wife Mary, my house and land at Boston, also the house that Gilbert Brooks lives in at Scituate, with the land belonging to it; and these to youngest son John after her decease, he paying 10£ to his sister Mary; but in case he do not survive his mother, to be equally divided to all my children.
