Otto Mathias DuMont

(24 Oct 1886 - 18 Jul 1955)

For many years the farming side of the family went with the address Bluffton, but they finally gave up on the PO, and now all goes through New York Mills. funny, it is where my folks are buried all the way back to great grandfather and mother DuMont, the most beautiful and peaceful cemetery I have ever seen, speaking of flue, the cemetery is divided just by paths into quarters, and up in the top left row, there are teeny tiny headstones , and some not so elegant, and one day I noticed with aunt Alice and I that all he names were there but 1919 or 1918 was the date on 99% of them, and I asked Mom and she said yes they were from the bad flu that went through and all these kids did not make it, mom was born in 1919 and I am sure they kept her isolated, farms were isolated then anyway. but that is a large group of kids, must have been a very sad time (Tuneberg).
