Death
Mrs. Bertha Maria Schmidt died at the home of her son, Gerd Schmidt, in the northern part of town, last Thursday, the 7th inst. Mrs. Schmidt was a widow, who would have been 80 years old the Monday following her death. She died of pneumonia, after five days of illness. She was a native of the Province of Hanover, Germany, and had been a resident of Monticello and the neighborhood of Monticello for a considerable number of years. The children surviving her are Gerd Schmidt, Mrs. Gerd Kammerman and Mrs. John Otten. The funeral services were conducted last Saturday by Rev. William L. Schuetz, and interment was had in the Sand Hill cemetery. (Monticello Express January 14, 1919)Endnotes
