Samuel Robert Phillips

Samuel came to Delaware Township, Ohio, with his mother and elder brother Job in the fall of 1835. In August 1836 he entered for eighty acres of land from the government, which he still owned in 1886. He added 80 additional acres to his original claim to own 160 acres of fine farming land. Samuel also became a teacher and taught at the first school in his district in starting in 1842 for four terms. He married and had three sons. Samuel voted for Henry Clay and supported the Whig and Republican parties. He and his wife attend the Methodist Episcopalian Church.
