Job claimed to be 76 yrs old on 5th July 1820. Rev. War pension records indicate that Job was born in Rhode Island and raised in Plainfield, CT, going to New York when he was 16.

Enl. for 2 yrs, was Pvt, then Corp. Capt. Samuel Ransom, Simon Spaulding, Cols John Durkee, Jacob Stroud. Enl Wyoming, Pa. Birth date not given. Br. in Rhode Island. Grew up in Conn, went to N. Y. when 16 years of age, later to Cooperstown, N. W. Children: Job, Daniel, Spencer, another son, perhaps other children. D. Jan 22 1835, near Amesville, Athens Co. O. Bur Amesville Cem near Amesville. Was in battles of Millstone, Boundbrook, Germantown, Mud Island, Elizabethtown. Ref: Bureau of Pensions, Dept of the Interior. Court of Common Pleas July Term 1820

On the 5th day of July 1820, personally appreard in open Court, being a Court of record for said County, Job Phillips, age 76 years, resident in Ames Township in said county, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows, vis:

"I the said Job Phillips, enlisted at Wyoming in Pennsylvania during the Was (sic) as a private in the month of November or December 1776 in Captain Samuel Ransoms Company in the Regiment commanded by Col. Zebulan Butler and after serving in said Regiment 3 months was attached to Col. Darger's Regiment in Gen'l Varnhams Brigade in which Regiment I served 6 months and was then sent with my company and another company of the Regiment to Lancaster and put under the command of Col. Broadhead and remained under his command about 2 months at Lancaster and then our 2 companies were sent to Wyoming, but before we arrived there the place had surrendered to the British and indians and we were marched back by the order of Col. Butler to Port Penn, where we arrived in July 1778 and I was discharged in about 6 weeks to take care of my family at Wyoming."

"And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift, sale or in any other manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of "an act to provide for certain persons engaged in land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War" passed on the 18th day of March 1818, and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities, contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed".

"My occupation when I had health was that of a labourer formerly on land of my own. I am nearly 78 years old and I am unable to labour except that I sometimes do small jobs to procure clothing. I have no family. I live with my son, Daniel, who possesses some property of which he received no part from me.
