Francis Vincent

According to oral history, Francis Vincent and his family were Huguenots who lived in central France during the mid-1700's. He is the progenitor of a large number of southern U.S. inhabitants with the last name of Vincent, Vinson or Vinsant. Several children of his left France, probably to escape religious persecution, and came circa 1770 to Saint Bartholomew Parrish, SC. Two brothers, John and Jimmie, moved their families to Gainsboro, Tennessee circa 1800. The other son, William (or George) Vincent, is said to have moved to Georgia. There is no proof of family origin nor of the given name of this man, father of James and John Vincent.
