Longtime implement dealer dies; Services held Tuesday
Funeral services for George Carl Schoon, 57, Monticello businessman, were held Tuesday afternoon, March 24, at St. Matthew Lutheran church. The Rev. George Schoon Anton Kirkegaard and the Rev. Nolan Harmon officiated. Mr. Schoon died suddenly Saturday afternoon, March 21, at his home. He was born near Scotch Grove, April 28, 1912, the son of William G. and Etta Balster Schoon. He was educated in Monticello schools. He married Matilda Kray May 22, 1929. The couple had always lived in Monticello. Mr. Schoon was associated with his father in the implement
business prior to assuming ownership in 1945. He operated the business until 1965 when it was sold to his son, LaVern. Mr. Schoon remained active in assisting with the operation of the business. He was a member of the Monticello Lions club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, LeRoy. Also surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Elnora)Husman of Red Hook, N. Y. and Susan, at home; a brother, Raymond of Monticello; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur Adix of Waverly, Mrs. Velma Winkler and Mrs. Herschel Ponder of Monticello, Mrs. Lucia Vesey of Cedar Rapids, and six grandsons. Casketbearers were Edward Brokens, Carl Schoon, Richard
Schoon, Donald Schoon, George Balster, Donald Hanssen, Richard Rosendahl and Vernon Doden.
