Samuel Goodin Sr.

According to a copy of "Descendants of Samuel Goodin, Sr.," Samuel Sr. was about 50 years old and a widower when he traveled by flatboat and landed at the Falls of Ohio (Louisville, April 1779) after spending a very severe winter in Fayette County, PA. This is referenced "see Kentucky Court Reports" by James Hughes, pages 183 - 186. "He then went south to Pottenger's Creek in 1780 at a site on the north bank of Rolling Fork......he built Goodin's Fort in 1781, according to the Filson Club publication.

Coming to Kentucky with the Goodins was Abraham Van Meter and his family. Abraham died in 1782 and Samuel then married his widow, Elizabeth Cline Van Meter. Elizabeth's children with Abraham Van Meter were Catherine, Letitia, Sarah, Elizabeth. Elizabeth Cline had one more child with Samuel Goodin, Sr., Abraham Goodin, b. 1783.
