William Benton Hawkins
(26 Feb 1781 - 29 May 1845)
William (known in KY. as "Black Head Billy") was the son of Reuben Hawkins and Rebecca Edwards born 26 Feb 1781 in Orange County, VA. He married Mary (Polly) Crockett, daughter of Col. Anthony Crockett and Mary Robertson, 15 Jan 1802 in Franklin County, KY. William died 29 May 1845 in Franklin County, KY. and is buried at the Evergreen Church Cemetery at Farmdale, Franklin County, KY. William had his Will Carved in stone on his gravemarker. Some of his relatives took the matter to court and it was accepted.
William B. Hawkins` will is dated 17 March 1845, and was probated 31 May 1845 in Franklin County, Kentucky, he names his wife, Mary and son, Samuel F. Hawkins; children, Mary Blanton, Rebecca Wright, Martha Clark, A. C. Hawkins, Elisha Obediah Hawkins, W. G. Hawkins, Katherine Farmer, Sara McKee, and children of Elizabeth Wright. Near the church where William B. Hawkins is buried is a stone marker with the following inscription: "William B Hawkins born Feb 26 1781 died May 29 1845", this church is called the Evergreen Church of Franklin County, Kentucky
