Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Warren

(11 Sep 1835 - 23 Jul 1919)

Frank went west to the goldfields and then drifted over to the coastal community of Gualala, California, where he established the Salt Point Hotel, which became a thriving business. He married and had three sons. He retired to Abial Lovejoy's Wilderness Lodge.

>From a letter from Sandy Warren to Lucille Lovejoy Voights:
"My fathers right name while they called him was Frank- was really B.F. Warren. Benjamin Franklyn Warren, born at Bangor Maine, 1834 came to California, 1853 gold rush days. Took sailing ship around the horn- 5 months. Went back later and brought the Lovejoy’s out to California by way of the Isthmus of Panama 54 miles railroad track. (Parts left out) Lovejoy’s used to talk of Wedges Creek (sic Wages Creek) and the sawmill there. My grandfather "Morgan Locke" was head sawyer there years ago. So they tell me. My father passed away June-1919 age 85.

From the Ft. Bragg Advocate, dated 30 July 1919.
"B.H. Warren, an early coast lumberman, died at Point Arena, July 23. 1919 at the age of 84. He came to California via Cape Horn in the early 1850's. He established a sawmill at Fish Rock in 1858. In 1860, he went to Gualala. Three sons, Fred H., S.L. Warren of Tonapah, Nevada, and C.L. Warren in the East survived. " (Per Kathy Clarke Smith)
