Fred was a resident of Monticello during the past four years and died at the John McDonald Hospital on Dec 25. He had been in ill health for a number of years. His condition was such that he ws taken to the hospital for treatment a week before his death. He returned to his home and was later returned to the hospital.
Fred was born in Hanover, Germany. He emigrated to the United States in 1898 and came directly to Jones Co. He bought a small farm in the Hardscrabble community, which he later sold, to purchase another farm closer to Monticello, Iowa.
In 1922 he sold that farm and moved to Monticello. Fred never married.
The funeral services wee held at St Matthews Lutheran. He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery. (Notice from the Monticello Expess).
