Colonel Garret Van Meter

(Feb 1732 - 11 Apr 1788)

Garrett was a boy of 12 when his family located at Fort Pleasant. Garrett inherited his father's lands at Fort Pleasant. He was a Colonel in the Revolutionary War in General George Washington's army. Three of his seven children lived to marry and raise families: Isaac, Jacob, and Ann. He and Isaac Van Meter represented Hardy County in the Assembly when the constitution of the United States was adopted.
