Qualifications, occupations and interests
Retired surveyor and sometime farmer. Educated at Croydon School and Startforth Hall School. Probably went to sea, visiting Sydney in 1819, China from 1821 until 1822. Arrived in Sydney in 1826. Third class clerk in Colonial Secretaries Office in 1826; resigned. Assistant surveyor in Surveyor General's Department in 1827; promoted surveyor in 1838; licensed surveyor from 1844 until 1846; retired on pension in 1853. Farmed and ran stock at Singleton , Maitland, Raymond Terrace; unsuccessful. Bankrupt in 1847 and 1867. Surveying work in Hunter River district retiring there at Raymond Terrace. Auditor of Australian Union Benefit Society in 1846. As a Member of the Legislative Assembly chaired the select committee into the management of the Survey Department.
Personal
Eldest son of Boyle White, Royal Navy and Honoria O'Sullivan. Married Maria Greig Mudie on 17 June 1830 in Sydney and had issue, 1 daughter and 2 sons. Buried without religious rites.
