Sampson Larkin
(Calc 1832 - 1885)
According to the Reynolds County Biographical Sketches book, Sampson was "Sheriff of Reynolds Co. for many years. Sampson, son of Silas Larkin, was b in Warren Co., KY 1834. He came to St. Francois Co. from Bardstown, KY before 1850. His first m was to Patsy Roberts, daughter of Johnson M. and Permelia Cole Roberts in St. Francois Co." Their children were "Mary (Parks/Barnes), James, Francis and Charles." His second marriage was to Missouri Elizabeth Cundiff, who "was b 1851 in Jefferson Co. and d at the age of 81 at the home of her son Z.W. Larkin of Doe Run Valley, 3-20-1930, with burial in Pleasant Valley Cem." Their children were "Alfred Larkin b 1873, Effy 1875 (Dinkins), Dolly 1877, Don Chaunce 1879, Zeno Willard 1882, and Estelle 1885 (Abshier). Missouri Elizabeth helped Sampson in his job as Sheriff by cooking for the prisoners and they also ran a boarding house in Centerville where teachers of the area liked to stay. One especially like the surroundings, she was anna Mae Estep, who eloped with Zeno Willard "Dean" Larkin on 12-16-1901." Sampson died "of an apparent heart attack in 1885 and is buried in Centerville Cemetery. Missouri Elizabeth remarried in 1890 to Wm. Reid."
