Alexander Sr. died when the boys were quite young and left them with friends to be provided for with money he left the children and the guardians spent the money and left the boys penniless. This was found in Keith Genealogy by J. Montgomery Seavers 1930.

Alexander Keith came to Baltimore between 1700 and 1705 but no records of his arrival or circumstances have been found. Alexander died when John was 11 and Alexander was 9 years old. No record has been found of Christianna's death. Alexander and Mary Grant raised the orphan boys. Their trust was managed by John Lancaster who apparently spent most of the trust and left them destitute.
The descendants of Alexander Keith were noted for pushing early into frontiers of westward expansion.
