Samuel Tillman Keith
(5 Jul 1878 - 30 Mar 1925)
Family located in Lone Grove, Carter County, Oklahoma ED 56 in the 6 April 1920
Family located in Hewett, Carter County, Oklahoma in the 1930 census
In my records I have the James Curtis KEITH you mention is from a family in Baltimore, MD, dating back to Alexander KEITH (b. 1681 in Scotland), who came to America about 1709. Several branches moved first to KY and then some of thes moved to Pike Co., IN. Around 1890, one from this family, an Alvin T. KEITH (b. 1844) came to Texas, and a short time later took up land in Carter Co., OK. Among Alvin's sons were Levi R. (b. 1872), Samuel Tillman (b. 5 Jul 1878, IN), and Everett Cleveland KEITH (b. 29 Aug 1886), all of whom are shown with their families in 1910 census of Carter Co., OK. Samuel Tillman Keith m. 19 May 1903 to Minnie Elizabeth HAMBRIGHT, and d. 30 Mar 1925, Ardmore, OK. These were the parents of a James Curtis KEITH, their 6th child, who is almost certainly the one you are talking about. The family is discussed in a book of Carter County history (where his middle name is spelled "Tilton"), and they did live in Lone Grove. Jame's next older brother, Fred KEITH, operated a glass shop, and the next older, Calvin Brooks KEITH remained in Lone Grove until he died in 1975. Next older, Velter C. KEITH (called "Yokum", worked for Oklahoma Parks Dept; d. 1979), and next older, John Thomas KEITH, was a policeman in Ardmore from 1950 to 1971. Eldest son of Samuel T. was Elzie L. KEITH (b. 2 Nov 1905; was barber in Ardmore; m. Delia V.; d. 9 Jun 1982)
