Martha Nurse

(11 Jan 1694/95 - 1743)

Widow of Francis Nurse of reading.
She was dismissed to the church in Middleton from Reading in 1738.

I had her parents as Ebenezer Nurse and Elizabeth Mitchel. This was possibly her husband's parents as she first married Francis Nurse.
Her parents were probably Timothy Hartshorn and Martha Eaton but need to develop proof.

Martha was born to Timothy and Martha Eaton Hartshorn in Reading on 11 Jan 1695-6:[1]
Martha Hartshorn married, first, Francis Nurse on Jan. 2, 1716-7 in Reading [2]
Children of Francis and Martha, born in Reading, were:[3][4]
Martha, b. 27 Feb, 1717, died 13 May 1718
Jonathan, b. 26 Aug 1719
Martha, b. 13 Mar 1721-2,
Timothy, b. 17 Mar 1723-4, m. Jane Caldwell 1746 in Rutland.
Sarah, b. 21 June 1726, m. Joseph Marble of Nichawog, 27 may 1747
Caleb, b. 17 Dec 1728, died 3 Sep 1729
Daniel, bp. 1732Francis died in Reading on 13 May 1733.[5]
Martha Hartshorn Nurse then married, as his third wife, Edward Putnam of Middleton in Reading on Feb. 24, 1736-7.[6]
"Martha Putnam formerly Martha Nurse presented a second accounting of the estate of Francis Nurse, deceased, on 26 Jan 1743. On 28 Mar 1743, two-thirds of the real estate was ordered assigned and distributed to Jonathan and Timothy Nurse, sons of Francis, and Jonathan was to pay to Timothy 68 pounds12:3 pence and to his sister, Sarah Nurse, 71:12:3 as her full share. In 1746, the "widow's dower", probably that of the children's grandmother, Sarah Nurse, had been added and was appraised at 499 pounds, and in 1748, real estate "formerly" set off to his "Widow now also Deceased", presumably Martha Putnam, was also to be divided."[7]
Martha Hartshorn Nurse Putnam must have died, likely in Reading, sometime after presenting that accounting in January 1743 but before November 29 1743, when Edward Putnam married again. But no town record of that event found yet.

Putnam is the name of her second husband, not her parents. Proposing a merge into a new profile of the same person, Hartshorn-668, to correct that.posted Aug 26, 2018 by Halsey Bullen
