Individual Details
Wenceslaus Krenik
(7 Sep 1867 - 28 Jul 1937)
The Wencel and Mary Krenik farm is located in Le Center directly east on Sharon Street, consisting of 320 acres originally. The farm was purchased on February 21, 1910 from Hiram A. Emery, a single heir of William F. Emery and Maude L. Emery, at a cost of $19,000.00 and was plotted into Emery's Addition to the Village of Le Sueur Center.
The family moved to Le Center in the spring of 1910 from their farm in New Prague, Minnesota. They lived in the small house which is still standing there today. Lots of hard work is the story told by all the early settlers of this land, but by working together the task was made possible.
In the evening, the kids usually played cards--there was no TV to watch! They typically played 500 or Yuker. John remembers his dad sitting behind him when they were playing 500 and giving him hints on what to play. One time Agnes, Stanley and John were playing Yuker. It was John's turn to deal. Agnes and Stanley got up to do something and while they were gone, John dealt himself all four Jacks. If you are a Yuker player, you know that only two are trump at any one time. Needless to say, John lost that hand.
Bohmie liked to pick on John, John being the baby of the family. Bohmie liked to take one of the large coats that were laying on the floor by the wood stove that was made out of horse skin and put it over his head and chase John around and growl. John soon got tired of getting picked on, so he warned Bohmie to quit or he would through a piece of wood at him. When Bohmie continued, John threw the piece of wood and hit Bohmie in the nose, breaking it and making it bleed.
In 1913 the Vosepjka brothers were hired by Wencel and Mary to build their new house which was home to the twelve brothers and sisters who grew up there.
The first son was Wencel G. Krenik who married Margaret Malecha after he returned from service during World War I and farmed near Cleveland, Minnesota. Four children were born to them who are: Margaret, Joan, Betty, and Robert. Robert and his wife Irene still live on the farm located north of Cleveland.
Mary Krenik married Frank Maca and two sons were born to them: Francis and George Maca. Frank Krenik, their born, farmed at home with his brothers until his death in 1973.
Eleanor Krenik still lives in Le Center.
Louis Krenik resided on the home farm and manage the acreage until his death in 1999. He managed the farm during World War II while three of his brothers were in the military.
Rose Krenik married Ed Kukacka and lived on their farm in Montgomery where two sons were born to them: Donald and Richard Kukacka.
Lillian Krenik moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and worked in the area at different occupations until her death in 1969.
Bohumil Krenik farmed at the home with his brothers Louis and Frank after returning from military service which took him to Africa and Spain among many other places during World War II. Returning home in 1946, he enjoyed farming and fishing until his death in 1961.
Sylvester Krenik married Vera Braford and farmed near Morristown, Minnesota. Two children were born: Doris and Charles Krenik.
Agnes Krenik moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and married Richard Carroll. Two sons were born to them who are: Michael and James Carroll.
Stanley Krenik married Mary Schoenbauer after returning from the military in 1946. They farmed near St. Thomas, six children were born to them: Kathleen, Ruth, Bill, Christine, Anne and Joseph (deceased).
John Cyril Krenik has lived in Le Center since returned form the Navy in 1946. In 1949 he married Mabel Fjeld. Two daughters were born to them who are: Cynthia and Patricia.
The new barn was planned by Wencel Krenik in 1936. Much of the lumber used was native lumber cut and prepared by the Krenik boys which they had sawed by the Vavra brothers.
The year 1937 brought illness and Wencel Krenik died in July of 1937 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Leaving the unfinished barn and a family, the youngest being 16 years old, the decision to finish the project was unanimous. Ben Zacher was hired to erect the stone walls of the barn. The stone was picked up locally with Henry Siehndel doing the masonry work. The Bernie McCabe brothers finished the carpentry work on the new barn in 1938. This barn had a firm foundation and stands erect even today.
Mary Krenik, widow of Wencel Krenik, lived on the farm working with her sons operating the farm until her death on December 23, 1959.

Portions of the farm have been sold from time to time . The Spors Company buildings were built on the 20 acres near the railroad access, which was Energx in 1989. The Center Motel and the original home built by John and Mabel Krenik was subsequently sold and is now the Spruce Board and Lodging. The corner acreage on Highway 99 was sold to Interstate Power Company and is now Casey's. The farm has been reduced in size by 50 acres.

Le Center Leader - March 10, 1927 - One of the Krenik boys east of town last week brought a large and peculiar looking bird which he had shot to the Leader office. From all appearances the bird was a Turkey Buzzard, and a bird which inhabits largely the warmer climates. It had a wing spread about like a fair sized eagle.
