James Philip Heine, the son of Alfred and Muriel (Liebe) Heine, was born on May 16, 1930 in Faribault. He was raised in Faribault, graduated from Bethlehem Academy, and attended St John's University. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Gustafson on July 17, 1951 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. Jim served in the US Army during the Korean War from October 1951 to June 1953. He received two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart during this period of service. He started farming after his discharge. In 1964 he moved to his present home and began working at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf. While working at MSAD, he began trucking for Mercury Minnesota in Faribault, where he worked for 23 years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43 and the Faribault Council 889, Knights of Columbus. Sports were a great interest to Jim during his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Faribault; five children, Deborah (and James) Roell of Alexandria, MN, Sandra (and William) Daniels of New Germany, MN, James and Sharon) Heine, Patricia (and Kevin) Thomas, and Joyce (and Todd) Trump, all of Faribault; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; four siblings, John R. Heine, A. Thomas Heine, both of Faribault, Peggy Cochran of Gainesville, GA, and Rosalie McCarthy of Faribault; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by is parents; and sister, Mary Heine.
