John W Klassen
Funeral Services for John W. Klassen, 79, a lifelong resident of the Benson area, were at 10:30 am, Tuesday, Nov 22, at the St Francis Catholic Church in Benson, with Rev Bernard Steiner officiating. Lectors were granddaughters Teresa Fath, Amy Klassen and Serena Klassen. Commentator was Carol Jensen and Leona Grosse was the organist.
Klassen died Saturday, Nov 19, at the Swift County-Benson Hospital.
Pallbearers were Jim, Bill and Mike Fath, and Chris, Chad, and Robert Klassen (all grandsons). Burial took place in the St Bridget's Cemetery in DeGraff.
Klassen was born in Crate township, Chippewa County, May 7, 1909, to John and Margaret (Condon) Klassen. He was baptized at the St Clara Catholic Church and confirmed at St Bridget's Catholic Church. He attended schools in Murdock and was united in marriage to Adeline Rose Goulet, Feb. 12, 1934, at St Malachy's Catholic Church in Clontarf, by the Rev Richard King.
He worked as a carpenter for the Great Northern railroad for 10 years, and farmed in Cashel and Kildare townships from1944, until retiring and moving to Benson in 1972. He later worked for Midwest Cylinder, Inc. He was a former member of the St Elizabeth's Mens' Council in Minneapolis and of the Farmer's Union.
Survivors include: his wife, Adeline; four children, Donna (Mrs. Joseph) Fath of DeGraff, Tom of Santa Monica, CA, dale of DeGraff, and Leonard of Benson; 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one brother, Frank of Benson.
Klassen was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and a granddaughter.
