John Kissam

John Kissam was of English parentage and was progenitor of the family in America.
He was among the settlers on the North Side of Long Island, located first in Vlishing or Vlissengen, now Flushing, Queens Co, NY. Later he settled on farm on east side of Madnan's, now Great Neck, in same county.
The family was attached to the English church and at the Rev War a large number of them sided with the Crown.

Now most are with the Episcopal Church

John Kissam of Flushing, Long Island
b. July 1644 of Englaish origin. Progenator of American family
He was also known as John Ocasson or Ockeson as written in "Albany Records" translated from the Dutch. He had a license from the Provincial Secretary 10 July 1667, for marriage with Susannah, a daughter of William Thorne, of Jamaica, Long Island. The same person, under name John Okeson, purchased a farm of John Smith, [Rock] Feb 4, 1678, on Great Neck, in the same county, to which he then removed.
