A son of Charles and Lillie May (Carr) Mauzy, Louis graduated with a degree in economics from Indiana University before joining the family's department store business at Rushville. 

The great-grandson of three Revolutionary War veterans (William Mauzy, David Jameson, and William Carr), Henry served in the U.S. Army during World War I. 

On 19 Sep 1916, Louis married Gladys, youngest daughter of Judge William J. Henley and his first wife, Sara A. Monroe. The private ceremony was held at Chicago's South Shore Country Club. Afterwards, they lived for a time in the former home of Gladys' grandmother, Missouri (Hackleman) Megee on Harrison Street.

Louis and Gladys were the parents of two children: David Henley and Robert Jameson Mauzy, who appear with their parents on the 1930 census at their home on Perkins Street in Rushville.
