Craig Curtis Currier, 81, of Pittsburg, Kansas died November 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 14, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio the only child to Clarence and Ivalene (Stucky) Currier who preceded him in death.
In his earlier years he graduated from Winona Senior High and Winona State University where he played golf and basketball. He was elected captain of the Winona State University basketball team, graduating in 1957.
On June 8, 1957 he married Anita Ask in Winona, Minnesota. They enjoyed a honeymoon at one of his favorite places, Ruttgers Resort, in MN. The two would return there countless times throughout their marriage. They were blessed with three children: Stacy, Scott and Kristine and later, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was an avid runner, participating in 3 marathons, including the Boston Marathon with a time of 3:11. He loved all sports but especially the St Louis Cardinals and Winona State University and was happy to talk about them with anyone and everyone. He was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather who took great pride in his kids and grandkids and spent much of his life watching them and supporting them in everything they did. He was a constant at every sporting event and activity they participated in. He also loved his friends and enjoyed his daily coffee with them. Craig was a salesman who enjoyed his work. He was employed for 11 years by the J.R. Watkins Company working in Atlanta, Denver, Minneapolis, and their home office in Winona, Minnesota. In 1972 he started working at Pitt Plastics Inc. where he created sales and eventually became president. He was with Pitt Plastics for 27 years. He loved his community and was involved in many organizations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on many committees there. He was president of the YMCA, United Way and Chamber of Commerce. He was also on the board of directors for Mt. Carmel Medical Center. Craig loved in both watching and playing golf and was a member of Crestwood Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Anita, as well as his children: Stacy and Steve Thomas, Scott and Shellee Currier and Kristine Orscheln; and his grandchildren: Alan and Addie Clement, Hannah Thomas, Jack Thomas, Sadie and Jordan Bicknell, Sydney Currier, Kersee and Drew Meyer, Chase Currier, Spencer Orscheln, Ali Orscheln and future grandson-In-law Jed Weber; and his five great grandchildren: Emma, Avery, Asher, Kate and Parker Clement.
A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 30) at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Mark Chambers officiating, the family will share memories and fellowship following the service. A private family burial will take place before the services at Mt. Olive Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Brenner Mortuary Tuesday, November 29th from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Winona State University Currier Athletic Scholarship.
