Benjamin Putnam was a private in Captain Jeremiah Page's company. Both, he and his father, marched to Lexington 19 April, 1775. Inherited his father's real estate. He and his wife Miriam joined the church in Danvers, Massachusetts, 1 November, 1778. It was not until 1786 that he held any town office; that year he was tythingman, but from that time on he was frequently called upon to serve the town in various positions. He lived on North Street in the house pictured opposite page 61. The silouettes from page 352 are from originals that was in Samuel Merrill's possession.
