The Staples World: Thursday; September 31, 1943 - Obituary.
Mrs. Margaret Fahnlander, age past 89, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy St. Pierre in Staples at 11:30 Sunday night September 26, after an illness extending over several months. Her death was attributed to complications due to her advanced age. She had been confined to her bed practically all of the time since last November.
Margaret Seberger was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Seberger, one of fourteen children, on April. 9, 1854, near Crown Point, Indiana. When a small girl the family moved to St. Cloud, making the trip by ox team, and since that time she has always resided in Minnesota. She had her early schooling at St. Cloud.
On May 24, 1879, she was united in marriage to Joseph P. Fahnlander at St. Cloud. They continued to reside there for many years where Mr. Fahnlander edited a newspaper. Later they moved to Wahpeton, where he again operated a newspaper. Mrs. Fahnlander has always made her home with her daughter.
Grandma Fahnlander, as she was better known to her many friends, was very active in church work in her earlier years, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church of Staples. Her life was devoted to her children, and to her church work.
Surviving her are one daughter, Mrs. Roy St. Pierre, and a son, Eugene B. Fahnlander of Staples, thirteen grand children, and 23 great grand children. Two sisters also survive her, Mrs. James M. Love of Palm Beach, Florida, and Mrs. John Kamperschroer, of San Francisco, Calif. and a brother, Joseph F. Seberger of St. Cloud. Five children and her husband have preceded her in death.
Solemn Requiem High Mass was sung by Rev. Fr. N Donnay, who was assisted by Fr. Zitur of Osakis, and Fr. Van Zutphen of Verndale, and by the Sacred Heart church choir under the direction of Sister Anselmoen.
Burial was made in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery of Staples. Pall bearers were Dr. E. A. St. Pierre, L.G. Sanco, L. D. Giddings, Frank Hassler, B. C. Blessing, and John Long. Honorary Pall bearers were Fred and Andrew Hoemberg Charles Wirtz, S. W. Campbell, F. H. Knowles, Henry Koenig, and Paul Read Sr.
Attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Arthur Wohl, Mrs. Albert Stroubel and Mrs. Joseph Seberger all of St. Cloud, and the Misses Catherine, Tina and Margaret McCarten, all of Fargo.
